Basila & The Street Crew will be fighting Social Ills in new Comic Book Series from AZ Comics

I found myself at the launch of an art book ‘Baslia & The Street Crew’ today at T2F. It was not in my schedule and how did I get there is an story I will tell in my friends’ circle but! I was there and considering another project we have in hands, it was a right place to be at.

This street crew has been ‘discovered’ by Imran Azhar and Anain Shaikh. Anain, the young artist also illustrated the entire story, which was put together by her and Noman Ansari. Together they are AZcorp Entertainment and they have been providing educational entertainment through comics for kids and youth. Story of Basila and her gang is a new and much needed topic for our society.

Earlier this week, during the screen of 60 Second Film Festival, the panelists define who a hero really is, and this is how I also portray a hero. ‘A hero may have one leg, but he or she is making an honest living, taking a good care of his or her family and is a productive part of society.’, they gave an example. ‘These heroes are important in society because they are one of us, they are among us, they are real are a constant inspiration for others’. Basila and The Street Crew - Comic Book Launch at T2FOf course I paraphrases their original words but not too far from what they have said.

Story of Basila is exactly it. She and her gang of misfits in society are taking care of the same society with best of their abilities. I will try to arrange first few pages from the book for you to get to know them better. This team of six, Basila, Riffat Apa, Nargis, Komal with the help of Jalebi the cat and Bijli the bike, aim to invoke sense of responsibility in people so for the future of this country, they can collectively work towards its betterment, with the resources they have.

I read what was provided during the event and I liked how story begins. It wasn’t a happy start but then again, heroes often don’t get that luxury. Graphics are very easy on eyes, Anain sure did an amazing job to bring an idea to reality. It seems cute when it needed to be and emotionally moving at places. I am sensing a touch of violence will be part of these stories hence the cover stated ‘Rated’ and ‘Teens’, but I could be wrong.

I am leaving one key surprise for you all, which you can find by reading the book, by reading press release or by watching the video from launch event on my YouTube channel.

Basila and The Street Crew - Comic Book Launch at T2FThis event was indeed educational and joined by many. Among them were Kami Sid, Ahsan Shah Tipu, Aafia Salam and Anain Shaikh aka Ainoo as panelist with Mr. Zarrar Khuhro. Their conversation with the audience was insightful. It all ended on very positive vibes.

We wish team Azcorp and crew of Basila a very best of luck in their mission.
